Bill Sather's 1934 Coupe
The Challenge
Build Bill his "first" hot rod. And when we say first, we mean that it's probably about his 6th. We'll explain. Bill has spent the better part of his life building his business which means he couldn't spend time building the car he always wanted. So he'd pick up semi-complete projects from others and worked them the way he liked and as his schedule allowed. Let's call them second hand hot rods. And every one was cool. Now however, Bill's son Brad thought it was time Bill should have his "very own" hot rod, so they brought us this '34 Coupe that Bill's had sitting around, "just in case", for more than 30 years. We can't wait until this one sees the street!
What We Did
We separated the car from its original frame and prepped it for its new Walden chassis, to which we added a dropped and drilled beam axle, radiused hairpin rods and Walden's Kinmont -style brakes and vintage-original Halibrand wheels . We also got the chassis and suspension ready for the new LS-based, 427 that was fitted with computer-controlled Hillborn stack injectors and a big, fat blower. Body mods include a significant top chop, body-side channeling and lengthening of the hood. Inside, we extensively modified the dash to include engine-turn features, Dakota digital gauges and supple, red leather seats with matching door panels and deep chrome plating tastefully used throughout.
What We Achieved
We built Bill's first hot rod! After accomplishing Job 1, it was off to the street and show circuit, where Bill's '34 grabbed a spot as a finalist for the Goodguys Street Rod Of The Year.
