Brad Sather's 1969 Firebird

Brad Sather's 69 Firebird

The Challenge

Design and build a one-of-a-kind, first generation Firebird with incredible drivability and functionality that was also true to its roots. And when we say drivability, we mean for demanding places like Nevada's Silver State Classic and The Texas Mile. And for a real challenge, daily driver functionality and reliability in Texas. In Summer. With the A/C on.

What We Did

To address drivability and function we used a Roadster Shop Fast Track IRS Chassis, Wilwood Brakes and a tough as nails, Rockland RS T56 transmission. To make sure it's one-of-a-kind, we performed extensive body mods with our signature attention to design detail and metalwork as well as hunkering it all over a set of one off, custom wheels. And, for what might just be the most important part- staying true to its roots- we powered it with honest-to-goodness Poncho Power, built and twin turbocharged by Butler Performance, one of the best known names in big Pontiac Power. Inside, we created a purpose-built, but sumptuously appointed interior that features an ESP Spares/BBT gauge cluster, BBT designed and machined HVAC controls, shifter handle and door pulls as well as custom formed door sills, rear seat enclosure and integrated roll bar that contrasts against beautifully stitched seats with red leather seating surfaces and simple black carpet with machined floor mats.

What We Achieved

For starters, 197mph in the standing mile followed up with PPG's 2022 Street Machine of The Year Award. Not bad out-of-the-gate. But there's more in it and we want it. This means more speed trials, more performance tuning and more dialing-in the overall package. It also means more seat time for Brad as we put his Firebird through its paces, and when we see how much he loves his car, well, that just might be our biggest achievement of all.
